Collingwood Park is located at [7800-7811] W Boulevard Dr Alexandria, VA 22308. Off we went to give it a try for the first time, bright and early in the morning. I would love to tell you how much the little dude enjoyed this playground, which was new to us, but I can’t. Because the dreaded naptime struck on the way over and he was out cold when we pulled up. (Toddlers, what the heck? Why is the once-a-day nap at a different time every day, and why must it always be at the worst possible time? Is there a union contract I could go over? Because I’d love to understand this.)
Since we were there anyway, I took some pictures for you while he slept in the car with Daddy. The playground is mostly enclosed. There is an opening to enter and leave the park, which doesn’t have a gate. It is the only egress point, so you will probably only have trouble covering it if you have two runners. (Twin toddlers to one caregiver might be tough here.) This is the place for slides! There are regular slides, twisty slides, and tube slides. There are plenty of places to climb. There are baby swings, but no big-kid swings. The playground surface is mulch. There are picnic tables, tennis courts, and athletic fields if you have big kids who need a lot of running. Restroom is a portolet, which has the handicap accessible logo and actually has a large enough clearance for someone in a wheelchair (or with a stroller) to enter it. (Pack hand sanitizer.)
There is also a long driveway to the street from the parking lot, which was not busy. So if you DO have a runner, chances are you can catch them before they encounter any serious traffic.
