You can always find up to date information about this and other local George Washington’s birthday events here: George Washington’s Birthday Celebration website.
Alexandria puts on an annual George Washington’s Birthday celebration that includes events at local attractions as well as the George Washington’s Birthday Parade. My family checked out the parade this year and unanimously declared it a winner.
Things to know before you go:
There are no concessions. Go early and explore Alexandria, then grab some lunch at one of your many options before the parade starts.
Spectators tend to congregate near the market square. If you want a clearer field of view, pick a spot near the end of the parade route.
You won’t be able to park really near the route- that’s okay, plan to take one of the public transportation options, or park in an un-metered street spot a little further from the action and enjoy Old Town’s architecture while you walk to the parade route.
If you pass near the review stand, be sure to greet George and Martha Washington. They sit at street level so it’s easier to wish George a happy birthday.
