In addition to providing assistance with newborn care, maternal care, breastfeeding and household tasks, our doulas provide guidance on recognizing baby cues, and establishing feeding and sleep schedules. Our Labor Support program offers specially trained doulas to assist the new parents during labor and delivery with a follow-up home visit to discuss postpartum care. According to a Harvard Health Letter, “Continuous support from doulas during labor provides physical and emotional benefits for mothers and health bonuses for their babies. With less medical interventions, fewer complications and shorter hospital stays, there may be financial savings as well.” In addition, Mother & baby Matters offers lactation consultation visits by Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs).
