Read MoreThe playground is mostly enclosed. There is an opening to enter and leave the park, which doesn’t have a gate. It is the only egress point, so you will probably only have trouble covering it if you have two runners. (Twin toddlers to one caregiver might be tough here.)

To get to this playground, park at the Lee District REC Center (6601 Telegraph Road, Alexandria, Virginia) and head away from Telegraph Rd, past the athletic fields, and up the hill on the gravel trail. You’ll go through a small copse of trees and the playground will appear.

The parking situation is a little limited during business hours, as this former school building is now the Fairfax County Office of Information Technology Operations. There is on-street parking nearby and the parking lot is available during non-business hours.
